RE-ROOFING BALI HUTS, OVER EXISTING THATCH

Introducing an excellent option that is increasing in popularity as a more permanent alternative to re-thatching your Bali hut. It is simply to re-roof over the existing thatch with a myriad array of roofing materials to transform your favourite space into a more durable, and / or contemporary structure whilst maintaining the most desired characteristics of your resort style living area, including the unparalleled insulation properties, and that unmistakable feature of rows of hand woven natural "Alang Alang" thatch from beneath. Whether you choose colourbond, one of the many shingle or tile options, or even synthetic thatch or palm leaf, the result is a clever and unique compromise between practicality and ancient beauty.

OUTDOOR FURNITURE & UPHOLSTERY

With Garrys' background and passion in furniture design and manufacture (leather lounges), it seems only natural to promote custom designed outdoor seating projects, including upholstery, to compliment our range of services. Using Merbau for a seamless transition from deck to bench seating, or individual pieces, or lime washed treated pine for that nautical / Hamptons theme, and adorned with a huge selection of resilient outdoor fabrics, the sky is the limit.
Why complete your outdoor space with an "off the rack" model when you can have a one of a kind?

SYNTHETIC PALM LEAF

Made from recyclable, sustainable plastic / composite, UV treated and fire retardant. Accompanied by a 20year written Warranty and has a 50 year life expectancy, which of course, whilst the initial investment is a little higher than natural thatch, the savings are very significant in the long term, given that natural thatch requires replacing every 8-10 years and shows signs of wear within a couple of years, whereas synthetic retains its volume, shape and colour, over its life. The plastic, or "composite" used, is the same as used to manufacture kayaks, so it also has outstanding resistance to salt and chemicals. Synthetic palm leaf can be installed onto stained or painted battens, to mimic natural thatch from underneath, or onto stained, painted or textured plywood, or wood panelling to resemble a boat house

SYNTHETIC THATCH

Made from recyclable, sustainable plastic / composite, UV treated and fire retardant. Accompanied by a 15 year manufacturers Warranty and has life expectancy far in excess of natural thatch, but of course, whilst the initial investment is a little higher than natural thatch, the savings are very significant in the long term, given that natural thatch requires replacing every 8-10 years and shows signs of wear within a couple of years, whereas synthetic retains its volume, shape and colour, over its life.  For a guaranteed waterproof result, the premium version can be supplied with an incorporated membrane

ASPHALT SHINGLES

Asphalt shingle roofs for Bali huts and gazebos are a great option for those looking for a durable roofing solution. They are easily installed as a new structure, a re-roof of a Bali hut or over an existing thatched roof. The mainstay of roofing in North America for generations, asphalt shingles have been enjoying a surge in popularity downunder in recent years. A versatile product that compliments any home, whether it is tiled or colourbond, asphalt shingles afford a luxury look of contemporary architecture, and are equally at home in an old world or heritage setting. They now come in a wide variety of colors and textures so you can customize your roof to perfectly match your existing home or outdoor space, as well as neutral tones to compliment any roof type or colour. They are fire-resistant and weather-resistant, offering excellent protection from the elements. Asphalt shingles are also energy efficient, helping to keep you and your family cool in the warmer months and cosy when you want to enjoy the outdoors in winter, with the aid of a patio heater.

COLOURBOND

Colour Bond roofing is a great option for gazebos, with a range of colours to suit your style or simply match the existing roof of your home.. It is lightweight, strong, and highly durable, making it perfect for providing shade and protection from the elements. Colour Bond roofing is also low maintenance, allowing you to enjoy your gazebo with minimal hassle. Colour bond is amongst the most cost effective roofing materials, whilst also being one of the most durable, and if you want to collect drinking water from your roof, it is the best choice. It is also one of the most versatile roofing materials, being suitable for virtually any pitch roof, lean to, carport or pergola. Depending on the colour you choose, colourbond alone does not have the greatest insulation properties, however this can be mitigated by choosing lighter colours, higher clearance, and  / or a ceiling fan. You can also line the roof prior to installing the colourbond, with plywood , wood panelling or VJ board. This leaves a cavity which naturally traps heat, however for maximum effect, insulation can also be installed as an option.

BALI HUTS - Natural alang alang thatch

Our Bali Huts feature a traditional alang alang thatch roof. This natural thatching material is both durable and stylish, and provides an authentic Balinese look and feel to your outdoor living space. Apart from their most obvious desirable feature, being their natural exotic beauty, and bringing a resort style feel to your outdoors, thatched roofs, when properly installed, have no equal in terms of their ability to absorb the heat of the hottest mid summer days.
Natural authentic alang alang thatch is sourced from Bali, Lombok and other parts of Indonesia, and is carefully handcrafted by our team of experienced artisans to ensure maximum longevity.
Beware those that compromise on quality by skimping on the amount of thatch used in order to achieve an attractive pricepoint, which will inevitably, greatly decrease the lifespan of the product.
Every Villa Luna Bali Hut, or re-thatch is crafted to the highest standards, because customer satisfaction is our highest priority.
Bring the stunning and exotic beauty of Bali home by upgrading your outdoor space with an iconic and timeless thatched Bali Hut today.

AFRICAN REED

African roof thatching has a long and rich history, with some thatched roofs dating back over 1000 years. The technique was used by many African tribes to create homes and dwellings, and has been adapted over the years to other parts of the world.
African reed thatching provides limited protection from the elements unless it is installed over plywood. It is primarily for shade, as it is not particularly water proof, particularly when installed on round structures like umbrellas. It is however a great option when wanting to achieve a more tailored look, with its signature layered design.

WOODEN SHINGLES

Wooden roof shingles are an iconic and traditional choice for Bali huts and gazebos. They provide a rustic and natural look that is unique to each piece of wood. Wooden roof shingles have been used for centuries to protect homes and buildings from the elements, with the oldest found shingles dating back to the 1600s. Today, wooden roof shingles are still used in many countries around the world, including Bali huts and gazebos. Because of their natural beauty and long-lasting durability, wooden roof shingles are a popular choice for homeowners who want to add a classic touch to their outdoor living spaces.
The two main types of wooden shingles available in Australia today are. cedar, and ironwood.
